Processor, memory, and sustained performance
Processor names and benchmark peaks do not describe every workload. CPU speed affects general computation, GPU capability affects graphics, and specialized engines handle imaging or machine learning. Software optimization, storage speed, memory, cooling, and power limits determine how the phone behaves after several minutes—not just during a short test.
More RAM can help keep apps available and support demanding workflows, but operating systems manage memory differently. Avoid direct cross-platform conclusions from RAM alone. For games, video editing, and long camera sessions, look for sustained performance and thermal behavior from controlled independent testing.
Displays: resolution, refresh, brightness, and dimming
Resolution must be considered with screen size and viewing distance. Refresh rate affects motion smoothness; adaptive technologies can lower refresh to save power. Peak brightness may apply to a small area or short interval, while sustained full-screen brightness and reflectance influence outdoor readability.
OLED, LTPO, color depth, HDR, touch sampling, and dimming methods answer different questions. People sensitive to flicker should seek model-specific measurements. A single high nit or hertz number cannot establish overall display quality.
Cameras: sensors, lenses, processing, and video
Megapixels measure output resolution, not automatic image quality. Sensor area, lens aperture, focal length, stabilization, autofocus, processing, shutter behavior, and subject movement all matter. A dedicated telephoto camera differs from a crop of the main sensor even when both buttons say 2x or 5x.
Evaluate still photography and video separately. Resolution, frame rate, HDR format, stabilization, audio, sensor switching, overheating, and storage use can change by mode. Manufacturer samples show capability under selected conditions; independent consistent comparisons better reveal tradeoffs.
Battery and charging
Battery capacity in mAh is stored charge, not a runtime score across unrelated phones. Display efficiency, processor, modem, signal strength, background activity, temperature, and software determine endurance. Manufacturer playback claims can help within one testing system but should not be treated as universal cross-brand measurements.
Charging requires a compatible phone, protocol, adapter, cable, temperature, and battery state. Advertised peak wattage usually occurs only during part of the session. Compare time to useful charge, heat, adapter inclusion, wired data capability, and long-term battery service—not peak watts alone.
Connectivity and ports
A 5G label does not prove full carrier compatibility. Exact bands, carrier aggregation, VoLTE certification, eSIM activation, Wi-Fi calling, and the carrier's device database can affect service. Regional variants can share a product name while differing in radio and warranty support.
USB-C describes the connector shape, not data speed, video output, or charging protocol. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth generation numbers also describe supported standards rather than guaranteed real-world speed. Verify the feature chain, including network, accessory, cable, and software support.
Durability, repair, and support
Ingress ratings describe defined laboratory tests, not permanent waterproofing. Manufacturer depth, duration, water type, and warranty limitations matter. Glass branding and frame material do not replace drop testing, case needs, or repair-cost research.
Software support, parts availability, battery replacement, warranty region, and resale demand determine useful life. Record when a support promise begins and distinguish operating-system upgrades from security updates. A phone that remains secure and repairable can be worth more than one with stronger launch specifications.

First confirm the exact US model and the manufacturer's definition. Preserve units and test conditions, distinguish measured results from claims, and mark unresolved values as unknown. Do not average incompatible figures or convert marketing language into a numerical score without a published method.
Then translate the specification into a buyer outcome: comfort, visibility, camera reach, charging access, carrier function, ownership years, or repair exposure. The purpose of technical detail is a better decision, not a longer list of numbers.
